Pakistani PF Frames
Over the last few years we have date authenticated a number of Lambrettas built in Pakistan, and they have all been Series 3 LI models.
A bit of digging into the information bank shows two importers for the Lambretta in Pakistan in the late 1950s, a time when Innocenti were keen to expand into foreign markets. However, by 1962 Wazir Ali Engineering took over and we believe that they produced the Lambrettas that we have seen with the PF prefixed frame numbers.
What we haven't been able to get to the bottom of is if the scooters were actually manufactured in Pakistan (unlikely we think) or simply shipped to Wazir Ali Engineering as knock down kits to be built up by the firm and then sold to the local Pakistani market, the more likely option. These kits would have been sent (we believe) minus frame numbers which would have been locally stamped, hence them not looking or appearing similar to those of Innocenti. All of the Pakistani built machines we have seen have four-digit frame numbers and they were all manufactured between 1962 and 1969. Interestingly we have seen a LI machine with Special side panels, though the owner couldn't confirm if these were the original side panels.
Hopefully that should shed some light onto this mystery, if we find out any more information we'll be sure to share it.
